I recently paid a visit to the Hopkinsville, Kentucky offices of one of the leading industry veterans, IX Web Hosting (subsidiary of global technology firm, Ecommerce Corporation). It’s been a few years since I last sat down with them and I was anxious to see how they were progressing. After all, with their very attractive hosting plans and excellent service, they’ve managed to stay ranked on our list for some time now, recently evolving to the claim our top spots.

Although it was a brief visit (I was only in town for about 2 hours while waiting for a plane transfer), I was glad I stopped by IX Web Hosting. I had the opportunity to meet personally with Mr. Fathi Said, CEO and founder, to discuss some of the advantages of hosting with his company. He was equally as excited to meet with me as I was him, so it turned out to be a very interesting meeting.

Furthermore, while on my little visit, I was able to tour their new dedicated call center, a new facility recently opened in April 2006. In my entire career as professional web master, I have never seen more responsive and technically sound support staff. I am thoroughly impressed by the technical skills of the IX Web Hosting customer care team. Featuring a plush 60-seat call center, excellent amenities and a strong office community spirit, it was quite a site to see such dedicated persons who truly enjoy helping others!
Being a customer of theirs for over 3 years now, I feel confident in IX Web Hosting. Albeit, my tenure with their service hasn’t been flawless, it’s good to know what’s going on behind the scenes. Sometimes a web server goes down, or some times email gets lost, but such things are only expected on the Internet. What makes it livable is that every problem I’ve ever had, IX Web Hosting has quickly corrected the problem and provided me with excellent communication and support along the way, oftentimes with the very people I’ve met while visiting!

Awesome Host. Quick, helpful support (sometimes took multiple replies to solve the problem, but during what I assume was business hours, they responded in less than 20 minutes). Lots of storage. Lots of SQL databases. Lots of bandwidth. What more could you ask for?? Webmail client works… I don’t like how the interface is on a different server, but if i really wanted to, I could install an open-source webmail package. Using the open-souce FileZilla FTP client for FTP tranfers, and works great with this host (someone below was complaining about the site recommending you buy a FTP client, but if you want a good, free FTP client, then just search freshmeat.net for “ftp client”, or use FileZilla). I’ve yet to witness any downtime at all, except for the scheduled ones at midnight periodically, but I don’t mind, since they notify you in advance.
I’ve had to use support several times, and once was when I was trying to install AWSTATS… I just submitted a support ticket, and within a few hours, I had a detailed set of host-specific instructions on how to install it. Saved me DAYS!!!
I would (and do all the time) recommend this host to anyone. Don’t go for something cheaper like Netrillium, because believe me, it’s bad. (I have to use it for a school band site, and they picked it because of its price - but it is bad, and not worth the price cut)
This host is fast, reliable, and reasonable with their prices. I got 5000 emails, lots of space and bandwidth, and lots of features. The only time they were down, they sent an email saying why it was down (hardware malfunction, shut down the server to prevent data loss I think they said) and were very polite in the email. I would love to work with this host on all my projects now and in the future.
I have been with many web hosting companies and I am totally impressed with IX. The tech support is very good, phone support is just OK, but the online help ticket system they have in place is AWESOME. All of my online ticket requests have been responded to in under 30 minutes. I put in an email suggestion to the president of the company, and within 5 minutes I received a phone call from the president’s representative to discuss my suggestion. Only down side right now is they are not a full registar of domain names so you can’t perform a complete transfer to IX,(that was my suggestion). The representative stated that they are in the process of becoming a full domain registar. I will be staying with IX and enjoying the customer service, great prices, and loads of storage and bandwidth. Great control panel software. Well worth the wait for the full domain registar service in the future. AWESOME hosting company, best in class right now.
